Mai Phuong Thuy, a student of the Hanoi Foreign Trade University, was crowned Miss Vietnam 2006 at the final round of the Vietnam Beauty Pageant held at VinPearl Resort in the central coastal city of Nha Trang on August 26.
The 18-year-old Hanoi girl also won the title Best Beauty Queen selected through Internet voting and the beeper system. At 1.79m tall, 60kg and with vital statistics of 86-65-96, Thuy will represent Vietnam at the Miss World Pageant to be held in Poland next month.
The two runners-up of the contest were Luu Bao Anh from Can Tho city and Luong Thi Ngoc Lan from HCM City.
The Organising Board also presented titles Miss Photogenic to Cao Thanh Hang, 18, from Hanoi, Miss Beach to Hoang Le Trang, 18, from Khanh Hoa province, Miss Sport to Dam Thi Ly, 24, from Dak Lak, and Miss Friendship to K’The, 22, from Da Lat city.
The pageant attracted more than 3,000 contestants from across the country. The Organising Board raised VND200 million for the Paying Debt of Gratitude Fund of Khanh Hoa province.
