Defending champion Nguyen Tien Minh made a good start cruising through Indonesian opponent Adi Pratama 2-0 at his first match of the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open on August 21.
- Minh drops to 14th in world rankings
Pramata, who was Minh’s training partner in preparation for the London 2012 Olympics, could not resist his opponent’s attacks and quickly lost the first set 7-21 after just 15 minutes.
The Indian underdog struck back very hard but still suffered a 15-21 defeat in the second game.
Minh will face world No. 147 Riyanto Subagja, also from Indonesia, in the next round.
At the World Badminton Federation’s latest rankings, Minh dropped from 11th to 14th due to his unconvincing performances at several recent tournaments.
