Vietnam’s Nguyen Tien Minh narrowly defeated his French rival Bride Leverdez 2-0 in his first match of the 2012 Yonex Open Japan badminton tournament.

Minh was led through most of the first set but fought hard to gain valuable points for a narrow 21-19 win.
The situation was reversed in the second set. However, the Vietnamese player still faced tough resistance and achieved another 21-19 result with great difficulty.
Minh is scheduled to play the winner of the match between Malaysia’s Daren Liew and India’s Sai Praneeth.
