Top seed Nguyen Tien Minh moved to the semi-finals at the Vietnam badminton Open at Phan Dinh Phung Gymnasium, HCM City.

Minh, the only remaining Vietnamese representative in the competition, overcame Japan's Kento Momota in straight sets 21-14, 21-18 to book a place in the last four.

Despite beating Momota in two sets it was not an easy game for Minh as the young Japanese produced a determined performance that forced Minh to up his game.

Minh will face his first real challenge in the semi-final match when he plays fifth seed Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia, who has won two of the three previous encounters between the two players.
