Tinh Nguyen Tre (Young Volunteers) and Niem Tin (Belief) Clubs held a special Mid-Autumn festival in Thu Le Zoo, Hanoi, on September 19 for 150 disadvantaged children, including street children, the handicapped and orphans.
Nguyen The Vinh, head of the event’s organizing committee, said every Mid-autumn festival gives people a chance to think more about children.
He said there are still many children who have to live in garbage under bridges or in slums and earn their living by collecting waste, and dressing themselves in torn clothing and begging. Many orphaned and homeless children sleep on pavements and have to sell newspapers, polish shoes and sell lottery tickets from early morning till late at night to manage two meals a day, Vinh said.
Vinh added that the organizing committee hoped the festival would help the community settle down and pay attention to the unhappy fates of many children.
