A special Mid-Autumn Festival, organized by the Vietnam Association for Protection of Children’s Rights (VAPCR), will be held at the Son Tay ancient citadel in Hanoi from September 11-15.

The event, titled “Gio trong trang – Gio vi tre em” (Moments to enjoy the moonlight – Moments for children), will include a number of entertainments such as sky lanterns, songs and dancing.

Speaking at a press briefing on September 8, Tran Thi Thanh Thanh, the VAPCR’s President said the festival is calling upon individuals and organisations to get together to help unfortunate children, especially those in flood-hit areas.

The event is expected to raise around VND2 billion and all the proceeds will be given to a programme to help children continue their studies, she added.

On the occasion, VAPCR granted 300 sets of clothes and 54 scholarships to children with HIV/AIDS in Ba Vi, Hanoi, and 500 other gifts to those with HIV/AIDS in Ho Chi Minh City.

The festival will be broadcast live on VTV1 and VTV6 on Vietnamese Television at 20.00PM on September 11.

*  The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (VME) will also hold a Mid-Autumn festival for children from September 12-14.

There will be performances and workshops on how to make toys and play traditional games, including new ones, during the event.

Children and adults alike are expected to enjoy popular traditional games such as the mua lan (lion dance), kite-flying, walking on stilts, casting and catching stones, skipping, the tug-of-war and bamboo bridge.

They will also have the chance to operate water puppets on a miniature puppet stage, organised by the Central Puppetry Theatre.

Meanwhile, in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, the Mid-Autumn Festival opened last week in front of the Dong Xuan Market and will run till September 14.
