Liem’s excellent progress in FIDE rankings
Top chess player Le Quang Liem has leaped 11 places to 31st in the latest FIDE rankings announced on March 1.
The impressive climb is mainly due to his convincing performance at the Festival Tradewise Gibraltar in the UK last January. Liem finished 14th and earned 4 elo points, bringing his total to 2,709.
He is now the Asian region’s third highest ranked player behind India’s Anand (No. 6) and China’s Wang Hao (No.16).
Liem is currently busy preparing for the HD Bank International Open Chess Tournament in Ho Chi Minh City, scheduled for March 18–25.
In August he will begin his training scholarship at Webster University in the US.
