“Lap Loe” video installation on display in Hanoi
(VOV) -Contemporary artist Tran Luong’s video installation Lap Loe will premiere at the Goethe Institute in Hanoi on March 7.
Luong—one of the first Vietnamese artists to experiment with installations, performance art, and video art—said his work was inspired by the red scarves worn by Vietnamese students. He used the imagery to express his views about contemporary daily life and historical matters.
Lap Loe also refers to uncertain fates, the lightning before the storm, and the simmering tensions that flare into war like the last efforts of dying embers.
It is part of the interactive performance series “Red Scarf/Welts” that has already toured Beijing, Chongqing, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Seoul, Solo, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Singapore.
Lap Loe was also shown in the group exhibition No Country: Contemporary Art in South and Southeast Asia at New York’s Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.
