A display of 1,000 kites and a carnival will take place in the ancient imperial city of Hue at the start of a series on events in different locations all the way up the country from central Hue City to Long Bien Bridge in Hanoi, to mark the millennium anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi.
A procession of 1,000 women wearing traditional dresses with traditional Vietnamese designs and patterns will also take place. This not only acknowledges Hue but also highlights the close links and similar culture that Thang Long-Hanoi and Hue share, according to Nguyen Duy Hien, Director of Hue’s Festival Centre.
The kite display can be seen on Truong Tien Bridge in Hue from June 5-13.
It will be followed by a contest of 1,000 kites and 1,000 traditional dresses in President Ho Chi Minh’s native village of Sen in Nghe An province on July 7.
A similar contest will also be held in the ancient imperial capital city of Hoa Lu in northern Ninh Binh province.
