Kien Giang hosts national junior athletics champs

(VOV) -As many as 350 athletes from 46 cities and provinces across the country are taking part in the national junior athletics championships which opened in the Mekong Delta of Kien Giang province on August 6.

Athletes, aged between 16-20, will compete in 23 different events including high jump, triple jump, hurdles, weight lifting, and discus throw.

The event, co-organized by the Vietnam Athletics Federation and the the provincial Department of Culture, Sport and Tourism, aims to select outstanding athletes in preparation for the upcoming 27th SEA Games in Myanmar this December.

 On the first day, Thach Thi Ngoc My achieved a discus throw of 33m98, while Nguyen Thi Hong Thuong made it 33m92.

Nguyen Thi Hoai Nhi ranked first in the girl’s high jump event after clearing 1.65m and Le Van Thao won the boy’s 5,000m run.

The championships will close on August 9.
