Hundreds of Khmer dignitaries, monks and nuns gathered in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on September 19 to celebrate their Sene Dolta Festival.

Lieut. Gen. Luu Phuoc Luong, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee for the Southwestern Region, delivered a greetings letter from Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung to the southern Khmer people during the festival.

In the letter, Mr Hung affirmed that the Government, ministries, branches and Mekong Delta localities will continue to implement the Party and State’s policies with a view to promoting socio-economic development in the region, especially areas inhabited by the Khmer people. He called on the Khmer people to overcome difficulties, lead a happy life and uphold the tradition of unity among nationalities and religions.

At the meeting, religious dignitaries and Khmer people thanked the Party and State for their sentiments towards ethnic minority people in the southern region, including the Khmer people.

The Sene Dolta Festival is one of the three annual rituals of the Khmer people to show gratitude to their ancestors. During the festival, the Khmer people gather at pagodas to pray for bumper crops, pay tributes to their ancestors and enjoy art performances.
