An exhibition of Kimekomi dolls, which are honoured as Japan’s national craft, was opened by the Japan Traditional Kimekomi Doll Association in Ho Chi Minh City on November 6.

On display are as many as 2,300 types of Kimekomi dolls including 70 types of Vietnamese dolls made by Japanese technology.

50 craftsmen from the Sachie Doll Association will be present at the four-day exhibition to demonstrate their traditional methods of making dolls.

2,000 mini dolls will be given to visitors to the exhibition.

The Kimekomi doll craft appeared in the 18th century and was considered Japan’s national craft product symbolizing the spiritual strength, confidence and  pride of the Japanese nation.

The first exhibition of Kimekomi dolls was held in Vietnam in 2005, displaying 400 dolls from 100 Japanese craftsmen.
