Thousands of people flocked to the second Japanese cherry festival, held at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre, Hanoi, on April 6.

The Vietnam-Japan and Japan-Vietnam Exchange Culture Associations brought to the festival three fresh cherry trees grafted from three hundred cherry branches from Japan.

They also displayed seven cherry trees made of silk and plastic, hundreds of carp lanterns, and 150 posters that feature Japan’s beautiful scenery, spring and cherry trees. Footage was screened showing a modern Japan through the eyes of Vietnamese students in Japan.

Visitors to the festival had a chance to participate in activities rich in traditional Japanese culture such as making Soba noodles and Japanese cakes, tasting shusi, playing folk games like Kendama and Wanage, folding origami and watching kimono shows.

This was part of activities to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Vietnam-Japan diplomatic relations.
