Two picture books, Me vang nha (When Mum Is Away) and Tre em trong ngon lua chien tranh (Children in the Flames of War) by late Japanese artist Chihiro Iwasaki are on display at the Southern Women’s Museum in Ho Chi Minh City.
Me vang nha is based on Vietnamese writer Nguyen Thi’s novel, while Tre em trong ngon lua chien tranh is inspired by Vietnamese children and the artist’s experiences during World War II.
Chihiro (1918-1974) spent her life creating 9,350 works for children, mostly about peace and love and opposition to war.
The two books on display were printed in Japan in 1972 and 1973. The Chihiro Fine Arts Museum in Tokyo was built with money from a foundation she established.
In co-operation with the museum, the two books on show will be published widely in Vietnam by the Phu Nu (Women) Publishing House.
