Fifty-two pianists from nine countries have registered for the Hanoi 2012 International Piano Competition, scheduled for September 4-12, as announced at a press briefing on August 24.

The contestants will be divided into three age groups, 10-13 years old, 14-17 and 18-25.

Professor Tran Thu Ha, head of the event's jury, said that this year’s competition, the second of its kind, has attracted the attention of many young talents worldwide.

The competition, organised by the Vietnam National Academy of Music (VNAM), aims to bring classical music closer to Vietnamese music lovers and promote exchanges between talented young pianists from the region and around the world.

Contestants will be judged by leading music professors, including People’s Artist Dang Thai Son, the competition's president and art director.

Vietnam is now a member of the Alink Argerich Foundation (AAF) and more information about the Hanoi 2012 International Piano Competition can be found at www.alink-argerich.org.
