This is the first time Indonesian footballers join the international event of this kind, which previously involved four other - Southeast Asian nations - namely Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and Myanmar.

Indonesia will send players who secured third place in Group E of the U22 Asian Football Cup to compete in preparation for the 28^th SEA Games in 2013.

Apart from the U21 tournament, the Indonesian team will have two friendly matches with Vietnam, in Jakarta on September 14 and then in Hanoi on September 22.

So far, five other foreign teams which have registered to compete with the host team Vietnam in Gia Lai, include Iraq, Syria, Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The organizing board is waiting for the approval of the Thai Football Federation to send players to Vietnam.
