More than 200 handicraft artisans from across the country are gathering at the second festival of traditional handicrafts in the former imperial city of Hue from June 8 to 10 to display their skills such as copper-casting, carving, engraving and silversmithing.
Visitors can view artisans from Hue, central Thanh Hoa province, and northern Nam Dinh province casting spot bells, drums and statues, while also peeking the secrets of goldsmithing by smiths from Ho Chi Minh City.
Artisans from famous carving villages, such as Dong Xam in the Red river delta province of Thai Binh, Dong Ky in northern Ninh Binh province, and My Xuyen in central Thua Thien-Hue province will showcase their best pieces engraved on diverse materials, including wood, copper, mother-of-pearl, gold and silver.
Ancient objects collected by 20 collectors from Thanh Hoa, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh provinces and Ho Chi Minh City are also being displayed. Valuable exhibits include original Dong Son drums, copper mirrors dating back to the 1st and 2nd centuries, 2,500 year-old copper jewellery, and teapots from the 15th-16th centuries.
