Vietnamese royal music has made a strong impression on Japanese audience during various performances held in Miyazaki prefecture and Tokyo from November 18-20.

Royal music, or Nha Nhac in Vietnamese, was proclaimed as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 2003.

After each performance, which aimed to bring Vietnamese royal music to Japanese friends and help them improve their understanding about Vietnam's culture, many Japanese and foreign spectators bought CDs and VCDs of royal music and songs about the former imperial city of Hue.

The performances were held under a cultural exchange programme organised by the Japan Foundation and the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan in collaboration with the Japan-Vietnam Cultural Exchange Association and the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Association in Tokyo.
