A series of seminars on preserving cultural heritage took place on August 25 in Hoi An ancient town, in the central province of Quang Nam.

The events, part of the 2012 Hoi An-Japan Cultural Exchange Program, were attended by leaders of central agencies, scientists and researchers from the two countries.

Discussions focused on cultural heritage preservation, attracting tourists, and sustainable tourism development.

Deputy Chairman of the Quang Nam provincial People’s Committee Tran Minh Ca said that local cultural heritage sites are in danger because of human activities and natural disasters. The modernization process and unsustainable tourism development have had negative impacts on both the environment and heritage sites, he added.
