A VND36 billion project to upgrade the Den Thuong (Upper Temple) on Nghia Linh Mountain in northern Phu Tho province kicked off on September 16.

The expansion of the Upper Temple, where the Hung Kings used to present their offerings to the Sun God, the Earth God and the Rice God, is expected to be completed on February 4, 2008 in order to serve religious ceremonies during the Lunar New Year Festival.

The Hung King Temples historical site is dedicated to the 18 Hung Kings who ruled the country from 1879 to 258 BC and were considered the founders of Vietnam. Under the reign of the Hung Kings, Vietnam became a sovereign nation for the first time.

Another historical and cultural site, the Con Son-Kiep Bac, in Chi Linh district in the northern province of Hai Duong is to be developed into a national tourist area under a VND1.27 trillion project, which is scheduled to be completed by 2025.

The 8,300 ha Con Son-Kiep Bac historical area, which comprises more than 100 relics, was an important line of defence where the battles of Van Kiep and Bach Dang took place during the Tran dynasty’s offensive against the Mongolians. It was also associated with great names in Vietnam’s history such as Tran Hung Dao, Tran Nguyen Dan, Nguyen Trai and Chu Van An.
