Players will compete in the one- and three-cushion carom events , with the winners of the three-cushion carom traveling to Porto, Portugal, for the World Championships in August.
The host’s player, Dang Dinh Tien, who won a gold medal in the one-cushion singles at the 2009 Asian Indoor Games and defended his title at the 2010 Asian Billiards Championships, is top seed for the tournament’s one-cushion carom.
The number one seed for the three-cushion carom is the RoK’s Lee Chung Bok, who triumphed at the 2010 Asian Billiards Championships and is now seeded sixteenth in the world.
The host nation has high hopes for the World No.38, Duong Anh Vu, who won a silver medal at the 2009 Asian Indoor Games; the World No.29 and bronze medalist of the 2011 World Cup, Ma Xuan Cuong; the World No.150, Nguyen Quoc Nguyen who was crowned the gold medalist of the 26th SEA Games and Ma Minh Cam, the winner of the 26th SEA Games’ one-cushion carom.
Competition will be fierce from Korean players who include the World No.7 Choi Sung Won; World No.8 Kim Kyung Roul and World No.9 Cho Jae Ho who took the gold medal at the 2009 Asian Indoor Games. The World No.20,Umeda Ruyji who was the gold medalist of the 2006 Asian Games and bronze finalist of the 2009 Asian Indoor Games and his fellow Japanese countryman, Tadashi Machida, who took the silver medal at the Asian Indoor Games will also prove strong competitors to beat.
Aside from the competition, billiards fans can enjoy a performance from the legendary Turkish player, Semih Sayginer, who held the world championship title in 1992 and 1998 and was voted World Player of the Year in 2003.
