A lantern festival opened at the Botanical Garden in Ho Chi Minh City on December 31, featuring thousands of lanterns, including those shaped like animals and world wonders.

Forty leading artisans from Singapore and China have worked hard at the garden over the past week to make special lanterns shaped like France’s Eiffel Tower, Italy’s Leaning Tower of Pisa, China’s Great Wall, Egypt’s Great Pyramid of Giza, India’s Taj Mahal, Mexico’s Mayan Temples and Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay.

The festival will run through February 25, 2007 to welcome New Year 2007, Valentine’s Day and the lunar New Year holiday.
