Hanoi hosts national watersports competition.

(VOV) -The 2013 Canoeing Championships kicked off at the Ho Tay (West Lake) Club in Hanoi on September 21).

This year’s event attracted nearly 160 male and female athletes from 19 delegations across the country. Teams are competing for ten sets of medals in both canoeing and kayak categories with distances ranging from 200m to 1,000m.

The host team Hanoi is hopeful in clinching gold at the two-day competition with a strong team of 24 outstanding athletes, including top racers Tran Van Long and Nguyen Thi Duyen.

Long won two gold medals at the Southeast Asian Canoeing Tournament in 2011, while Duyen qualified for the women’s 500m and 200m events at the 2011 Asian tourney.

The 2013 champions also saw fierce competition from Binh Thuan, Hai Phong and Thai Nguyen,Vietnam’s largest canoeing training centres.
