A “Hanoi Cultural Week” will take place in Toulouse, a city in southern France, in late May this year. This is seen as a good chance for Hanoi and Vietnam to promote its image to the French people. A Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) reporter interviewed Director of the Hanoi External Affairs Department, Ha Van Que, who has signed a programme to organize the Hanoi Cultural Week in Toulouse.
Reporter: The Hanoi Cultural Week will offer with many diverse activities. Can you brief us on these activities?
Mr Que: Through the event in Toulouse, we want to introduce the image of Hanoi capital city- a thousand year-old city with diverse activities such as water puppetry, traditional music and dance performances, culinary arts, tea culture and images of Hanoians themselves through documentary films about the city’s tourism and landscape. We also want to introduce unique products by Hanoi’s artisans to French and international friends during the event. At the same time, we will also organize a seminar on the history of Hanoi over the past years with the participation of history research, including a French historian Philippe Papin who has conducted a lot of researches on the capital city, and Hanoi’s historian Nguyen Vinh Phuc.

Mr Que: The event aims to promote Hanoi’s sustainable and rapid development, as well as socio-economic cooperation with the French city. Seminars will also be held in the near future for the two cities’ businesses to meet and seek cooperation opportunities.
Reporter: Could you tell us something about the French city’s assessment of the preparation work for the “Hanoi Cultural Week”, as well as the Toulouse municipal authorities’ assistance in helping Hanoi successfully host this event?
Mr Que: Preparatory work for the “Hanoi Cultural Week” in Toulouse was implemented more than one year ago with Hanoi’s municipal authorities’ explicit instructions and considerable assistance from Toulouse’s municipal authorities. Over the past year, especially during this working trip, both sides focused their discussions on the preparatory work needed for the successful organization of “Hanoi Cultural Week”. During the two-day working session, we reached consensus on set targets and signed a memorandum of understanding to devolve responsibility upon each city in organizing activities during the event.
Reporter: Thank you.
