A grand ceremony to mark 700th anniversary of the death of King Tran Nhan Tong who was also a Buddhist monk, will be held on November 27 at localities in the northern province of Quang Ninh.

The announcement was made by the Most Venerable Thich Thanh Tu at a press conference held in Hanoi on October 27.

Addressing the conference, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Tu emphasized that becoming a Buddhist monk of King Tran Nhan Tong is an unique event in the history of Vietnam in general and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in particular. King Tran Nhan Tong’s teachings have become a compass for Buddhist monks and nuns of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha to follow for many years.

An incense-offering ceremony will be held in different temples and pagodas in the province.

The event will be co-organised by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and relevant agencies.

During the grand ceremony, the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences will hold a seminar on King Tran Nhan Tong.
