The contest, organised for the first time by the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and funded by Nokia, attracted 3,000 photos from 409 photographers nation-wide.
It aimed to enhance the quality of journalistic photography and promote the role of press photography in society as a whole.
According to the jury, the winning series were selected due to its timely depiction of the violent devastation by flash floods last month that completely washed away Tung Chin and Trinh Tuong hamlets in Bat Xat District, Lao Cai province.
Two first prizes went to Le Hoai Phuong’s collection that depicts capturing monkeys, and a shot by Lan Xuan of a little girl crying as she tells stories of Uncle Ho.
The jury also handed out three second prizes, six third prizes and nine consolation prizes.
“Golden Moment photos aroused out sympathy with the newsworthiness of the subject and the images that photographers capture through their lens,” said VNA Executive Deputy General Director Tran Mai Huong.
The prize winning series, along with 100 other top contenders, are on display at the Exhibition House, 45 Trang Tien Street until September 20.
