Grandmaster Le Quang Liem has been selected by Ho Chi Minh City as one of its seven most outstanding youths in 2011.

Liem’s title is credited as having performed well at regional and world events over the year.

The Vietnamese grandmaster (ELO 2715) has entered the world’s top 25 male players, according to the World Chess Federation (FIDE). For his achievements including winning two gold medals at the recent 26th SEA Games in Indonesia, he was awarded the Labour Order, second class, on December 23.

A ceremony to honour the city’s most outstanding youths will be held at the Youth Cultural House on January 1, 2012.
