The Global Community Service Foundation (GCSF) will launch a fundraising campaign in Hanoi on January 18, 2008 in support of Van Kieu and Pa Co ethnic minority groups in central Quang Tri province.
At a press briefing in Hanoi on November 12, GCSF Secretary Marianne Henderson said the foundation aims to raise more than US$100,000 to build eight cultural community houses and preschool complexes in Dak K’rong district which is mostly inhabited by Van Kieu and Pa Co ethnic minority groups.
GCSF Vice Chairman Gary S. Smuckler said that besides improving the spiritual life of local ethnic people, these public works will help promote tourism development and generate jobs for local people.
The Global Community Service Foundation is a Washington DC-based non-profit organisation that works to reduce poverty in Southeast Asia through the development and implementation of sustainable community-based projects in Myanmar and Vietnam. It built the first community-based cultural centre in Spanr village of Quang Tri province in 2006.
