An oratorio will be performed at the Hanoi Opera House on April 6 to mark the opening of a German Cultural Week in Vietnam, announced the German embassy and the Goethe Institute at a press conference in Hanoi on April 4.

This is Vietnam’s greatest music event over the past years. Nearly 200 Vietnamese and German soloists and musicians will take part in the performance. The event is part of various cultural activities under the framework of German Cultural Week in Hanoi, HCM City, Hoi An town and Da Nang city.

Speaking at the press conference, German ambassador to Vietnam Christian Ludwing Weber Lortsch said through diversified cultural activities, Vietnamese and German people will learn more about each country’s culture. He said the Doi Moi (Renewal) process in Vietnam and improvements in the quality of life have made a deep impression on him. Especially, young Vietnamese living in Germany have presented a fine image of Vietnam. He added that cultural exchange activities will bring two peoples close to each other.

Diversified cultural activities also mark Germany’s becoming President of the European Commission and German President Horst Koehler’s coming visit to Vietnam in May 2007.
