The Jacques Couturier Organisation from France won first prize at the second Da Nang international fireworks contest on March 28.

Thousands of people in the city flocked to the banks of the Han River to enjoy fireworks displays from France, the US, Japan, Portugal as well as  Da Nang.

Inspired from the legend of the fairy mother Au Co and dragon father Lac Long Quan (from Vietnamese folklore), the French show told the story of Au Co’s journey on earth after she could not return to heaven. Deep in sorrow, her tears fell upon the Han River. One day, her solitude was eased as she met a nice looking prince Lac Long Quan. The heart wrenching love story was illustrated by colourful fireworks accompanied by a wonderful melody of music.

The runners-up were the Pyrotecnico group from the US State of Pennsylvania. They brought to the audience an impressive show with the fast and strong rhythm of Rock n’ Roll. The shows highlighted new and modern performance art.

The third prizes were shared between Japan, Portugal and the host team Da Nang.

The fireworks contest is an exciting cultural and tourism event which attracts between 70,000 and 80,000 visitors to the city every year.
