The Cham museum of sculpture in the central city of Danang will open two modern exhibition suites on February 27 with funding provided by the Guimet Museum of Asian Art and France’s Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

New state-of-the-art equipment will be used to exhibit sculptures from the Champa civilization in a completely new way after a large-scale programme put together by Vietnam and France, which previously organized an exhibition on Champa sculptural art held by the Guimet museum in France in 2005.

The programme is part of an ongoing project to support the preservation and development of Vietnamese museums by the preferential solidarity fund of the French Foreign Ministry to help Vietnam enhance the role played by its museums in education and development activities.

Under the project, France will help to upgrade five museums: the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, the Cham Museum in Da Nang the Ho Chi Minh City-based National Museum of Vietnamese History, the Dak Lak Museum and the War Remnants Museum.
