Fourth gold medal for Vietnam at Asian Games

(VOV) - Van Ngoc Tu clinched a gold medal for Vietnam in the Kurash discipline at the ongoing 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in the Republic of Korea on July 4.

In the women’s 52kg weight category, Tu easily knocked out Lumakullyeva Anya of Turkmenistan, who had fought hard against Thai and Taiwanese martial artists from the quarter and semi-final clashes.

The Vietnamese athlete produced a spectacular comeback when the game was just five seconds to go, outclassing her Turkmenistan athlete with a decisive kick.

This is Vietnam’s fourth gold medal after those won by swimmer Hoang Qui Phuoc, Muay martial artist Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat, and swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien.

At the 2009 Asian Indoor Games in Vietnam, host athletes carried off two gold and two bronze medals in Kurash, a Judo-like sport originating from Uzbekistan.

The same day, duo Hai Anh/Nha Uyen won two bronze medals in the Standard Tango and Standard Quickstep disciplines.

Nguyen Quoc Nguyen grabbed a silver medal in the men’s 3-cushion single discipline.

After five competition days, Vietnam has bagged a total of four gold, six silver, and seven bronze medals, ranking fifth on the medal tally.
