Nearly 700 delegates from 135 countries around the world attended the second world forum of former students who had studied at Russian universities on October 3.

Vietnam is one of the countries which had the largest number of delegates at the forum.

Vietnamese State President Nguyen Minh Triet sent a letter of support to the forum.

Addressing the three-day forum which was held in Russia and closed on October 3, Vu Xuan Hong, President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) said our international friends are very interested in Vietnam which has sent the largest number of delegates in the fields of territory education, vocational training, natural sciences, social sciences and the military. Speeches from the Vietnamese delegates are of great significance and have contributed to the success of the forum.

At the forum, delegates discussed a number of major themes including issues relating to foreign students studying at Russian universities, the improvement of qualifications for cadres who previously studied in Russia, the Russian language in countries throughout the world and the ability to use the language in a global educational environment.

Understanding the importance of expanding the number of Russian-speaking people around the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to select 2007 as the year of the Russian language and the forum is just one of many activities that will take place in Russia.
