Contestants are girls in the age group between 18 and 27 years who are as tall as 1.60m or more, either Vietnamese citizens in the country or citizens of Vietnamese origin living in all countries and territories in the world.
Duong Xuan Nam, editor-in-chief of Tien Phong (Vanguard) newspaper and head of the organising board, said in the past three months, the board has received nearly 1,000 files.
In early August, Miss Vietnam for girls of Vietnamese origin will be held in the UK, Germany, the Commonwealth of Independent States (SNG), the US, Australia, and some Asian countries. The qualifying round for domestic Vietnamese girls will be held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in mid-August.
During the final round from August 18 to September 2, contestants will take part in performances such as ao dai, swimming suit and evening dress and attend sub-contests to select Miss Photo, Miss Tourism, and Miss Sea.
The Vietnam Miss World and runners-up will be elected in the final show, expected to be covered live on VTV3 of Vietnam Television on September 2. The Vietnam Miss World will receive a prize of US$20,000 in cash and a tour within the country or abroad.
The first Vietnamese Miss World 2007, jointly organised by Tien Phong newspaper, Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper, Vietnam Television and Vinpearl Joint-stock company, aims to honour the beauty, dignity, knowledge and appearance of Vietnamese girls, girls of Vietnamese origin living and studying all over the world. It is also a cultural activity to promote national unity and community integration to help Vietnam better integrate into the world.
