Under the framework of a UNESCO-assisted project to preserve nha nhac Hue’s Royal Court music, the first training course for 20 musicians opened in central Thua Thien Hue province on February 10.

The two-year course (2006-2007) is organised by the Ministry of Culture and Information in collaboration with the UNESCO Vietnam National Committee at the Thua Thien Hue School of Culture and Arts.

Head and Representative of UNESCO Hanoi Office Chu Shiu-Kee praised the great efforts made by the province to implement an action plan to preserve nha nhac. He emphasised that the course will provide a model and valuable lessons for other projects in Vietnam and the world to follow.

Vietnam is one of 22 countries in the world, to have adopted the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention this year, Mr Shiu-Kee added.
