The Ho Chi Minh City Conservatoire on July 8 granted certificates to 25 participants of the nation’s first ethnomusicology course taught by Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thuyet Phong from Kent University in Ohio, the US.
On behalf of the trainees, musician Tran Long An said the course provided him with useful methods to assess the value of the music of ethnic groups.
The trainees have written five group reports on the music of the Chinese community in Ho Chi Minh City.
Over the past 30 years, Prof. Phong has worked untiringly for the promotion of Vietnamese music, especially folk music, with an attempt to make it a language for communication between Vietnam and the world.
