A week-long film festival opened at the National Cinema Centre in Hanoi on October 18 to show more than 30 documentaries and films featuring the bravery of Vietnamese naval forces during the war.

The event is part of activities to celebrate the 50 anniversary of the Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea.

In addition to showings of old films featuring the soldiers and people who built the trail, the festival will present newly-produced films about daily life on the country's islands and how the navy defends the nation's sea territory.

There will be an exchange between film producers, artists and local navy forces in Hai Phong city.

Established on October 23, 1961, the Ho Chi Minh Trail at Sea was a strategic maritime route to transport weapons and goods to battlefields in the south. It made an important contribution to the great victory of 1975, when southern Vietnam was liberated and the country was reunited.
