Thirty-eight leading Vietnamese and Russian films will be screened at the National Cinema Centre in Hanoi free of charge from Friday to next Tuesday.

The event is to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Russia State Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), which trained a number of the artists who were part of the films to be featured.

The VGIK was the training ground for nearly 100 of Vietnam’s most famous artists in the film industry including Bui Dinh Hac, Tran Van Thuy, Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, Tran Luan Kim and Vuong Duc.

Nineteen Vietnamese films will be shown, including Giai Han (Relieving Bad Luck), Hanoi 12 Ngay Dem (Hanoi, 12 Days and Nights), Thi Tran Yen Tinh (The Tranquil Town) and Rung Den (Black Forest).

The VGIK also selected 19 outstanding Russian films to show to Vietnamese audiences. The films were made by famous filmmakers such as A Tarkovskyi, A Gordon, N Mikhailkov, E Klimov and A Peleshyan.
