The Golden Kite Awards 2008, organised by the Vietnam Cinematography Association, has been officially launched with the participation of 41 short films, 10 documentary films and 1 animated film.

The “Anh Ao” (virtual image) by director Huynh Trung Hieu and “Nhung Vong Xe” (wheel rims) by director Le Hoai Vu are longest among the short films, at 29 minutes each. The “Bui” (Dust) by director Duong Thu Ngoc is the shortest in 5 minutes.

There are fifty-two films competing for awards, including 6 from the Hanoi University of Drama and Cinematography and 21 from the HCM City Cinematography and Theatre College.

In addition, a pair of directors Nao Thu Hoai and Le Ho Lan from the Viet Ha Trading Co. Ltd. will take part in the competition with six 20-minute films. The Saigon Media Trading and Services Co. Ltd. submitted 2 documentary films and the Giai Phong Film Studio in cooperation with the Fanatic Film Company are contributing one animated film.

The board of examiners’ list hasn’t been announced officially. The awards ceremony will be held on December 12 at the Tan Son Nhat Cinema.
