The second national festival of Cheo (Vietnamese traditional opera) villages wrapped up in northern Nam Dinh province - the cradle of the art - on May 14 after three days of spirited performances.
The festival attracted nearly 400 amateur artists from 14 Red River Delta provinces and cities to present Cheo plays featuring the daily lives of ordinary people and the fight against social evils such as gambling, prostitution and corruption.
The organising board presented gold medals to nine plays and 20 artists, and silver medals to five other plays and 20 individuals. In addition, 34 art troupes and artists were awarded Certificates of Merit by the Ministry of Culture and Information, the Department of Grassroots-level Culture and Information and the Vietnam Cheo Theatre.
