The creative efforts made by young people in national socio-economic development were highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan at the first-ever Young Creation Festival in Hanoi on March 24.

The festival was held to mark the 75th anniversary foundation of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and to award prizes to the 75 most outstanding projects, innovations and products of significant importance in the field of education, scientific study and production.

Mr Khoan said he welcomed the initiative from the Youth Union to promote and honour the creative potential of young people. The awards were presented in honour of the Union’s foundation, and in celebration of the upcoming 10th National Party Congress, Mr Khoan added.

One of the winning projects was a scientific study on improving techniques in growing coffee, cacao and pepper trees conducted by Nguyen Dang Minh Chanh, an official from the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) Agro-forestry Scientific and Technology Institute.

The Youth Union said it will establish a Young Creation Fund this year and work with Vietnam Television to launch a game show on the fund.
