Female team beats Bahrain in Asian Cup qualifier

(VOV) -The Vietnamese women football team easily defeated underdogs Bahrain 8-0 in the first match of the Asian Cup qualifying round on May 22.

In the 3rd minute striker Nguyen Thi Minh Nguyet received the ball from a corner kick and headed it into the back of the net.

In the 20th minute midfielder Kim Hong dribbled past the Bahrainis goalie and defenders to double the score.

Two minutes later, she created an accurate pass to defender Nguyen Thi Xuyen, who successfully made it 3-0.

Before the end of the the first half midfielders Nguyen Thi Muon and Nguyen Thi Lieu scored two more goals for Vietnam.

The team continued to dominate the match in the second half and Muon beat the Bahrainis goalkeeper twice in the 58th and 70th minutes to complete her hat-trick while her teammate Nguyen Thi Kim Tien scored her first but crucial goal in the 63rd minute to clinch the match.

Vietnam now tops group C while Hong Kong (China) ranks second after defeating Kyrgyzstan 2-1.

Vietnam will meet Kyrgyzstan in its second match on May 25.
