The exhibition, co-organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Indian embassy in Vietnam, displays more than 200 photographs, documents and objects related to the friendly relationship between the two countries.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism Ho Anh Tuan said that the exhibits reflect the friendship between late President Ho Chi Minh and late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru.
It offers an opportunity for Vietnamese people to learn more about Indian history, culture and people, and contributes to strengthening the long-standing friendship and multifaceted-cooperation between the two countries, Tuan said.
Indian Ambassador, Ranjit Rae affirmed that the exhibition captures the depth and warmth of the relationship between Indian and Vietnam and commemorates their two great leaders.
He also announced that a series of cultural and commercial events marking the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and ASEAN will take place, including seminars on the "Champa Civilization, Connections between Vietnam and India” and the “Vietnam-India Strategic Partnership”.
The exhibition is divided into four parts, with the first one covering over 50 years of relations between Vietnam and India, starting from Prime Minister Nehru's visit to Hanoi in 1954 and President Ho Chi Minh's visit to India in 1958.
The second part features visits by the two countries' State leaders including photographs showcasing bilateral cooperation in numerous fields such as politics, economics, national defense, security, culture and social affairs.
The third part of the exhibition focuses on the traditional customs and daily lives of people in India and Vietnam.
The last section highlights the series of cultural activities organized during the Vietnam - India Friendship Year 2012.
Documentary films about President Ho Chi Minh's visits to India will also be screened during the event.
