An exhibition opened in Hanoi on January 5 to showcase more than 500 books, 60 photos by Vietnamese writers and foreign translators.

The exhibition, held on the sidelines of an international conference on Vietnamese literature from January 5-10, provides international readers and researchers with a better understanding of the history and values of Vietnamese culture and the exchange between Vietnamese literature and the world.

Works on display include those by Vietnamese authors that have been rendered into English, French and Slovak, such as a collection of short stories entitled “Tiem may Sai Gon” (Saigon Tailor’s) by different writers, “Nhat ky trong tu” (Prison Diary) by President Ho Chi Minh, and “Bi vo” (Burglar) by Nguyen Hong.

The exhibition also features works by foreign authors such as Marc Levy of France and Atiq Rahimi of Afghanistan.

Poet Huu Thinh, President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association, said the event reflects the process of literary exchange between Vietnam and the world as well as translators’ contributions to readers.
