The Vietnam Museum of Ethnology on February 10 launched a programme to welcome the Lunar New Year festival 2008, which attracts thousands of tourists.

Coming to the museum, visitors have opportunities to enjoy the cultural characteristics of ethnic groups like Kinh, Cham, Ha Nhi, Bana, Ede, Dao, Mong, and Tay. They also take part in folk games like tug of war (keo co), five-coloured cloth ball throw (nem con), swinging (danh du), walking on stilts (di ca kheo) and water puppetry shows.

Especially, visitors have the opportunity to watch fireworks and enjoy traditional food from different ethnic groups.

The programme will run until February 17.

On the same day, around 130 photos from Lai Xa people from Ha Tay province was showcased at the museum. They were selected from 2,500 photos taken by seven Lai Xa people from March 2006 till mid-2007.

Lai Xa, the only photo village in Vietnam, is being affected by the urbanisation process.
