Over the past 10 years, the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology in Hanoi has emerged as a popular destination for both local and foreign visitors thanks to its diverse and engaging attractions.

By July the museum had received about 84,500 visitors, 2,600 visitors higher than the same period last year. Of the total, nearly half were foreign visitors.

The good result was attributed to the museum's efforts to organise various special exhibitions to attract visitors. The most popular exhibitions included "100 Years of Vietnamese Weddings" and "Hanoians‘ lives under the Subsidised Economy."

People throughout the country warmly responded to the museum's appeal for donation of objects and materials for the two shows.

The museum has built five folklore architectural works including Cham, Ba Na, and Ha Nhi ethnic houses, and a Co Tu tomb. It also provides education programmes for children, such as classes on textiles, water puppets and ethnic cultures.

Prof. Dr
. Do Hoai Nam, Director of the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences, said that the museum has succeeded in becoming both interesting and accessible to the general public.

On August 7, the museum was awarded Labour Order, second class, by the State President for its outstanding contributions to the country’s scientific and cultural activities over the past five years.
