Festivals, seminars, exhibitions and drama performances will be held in Vietnam’s two biggest cities in October and November, to commemorate the 100th death anniversary of Henrich Ibsen, an internationally-acclaimed dramatist of Norway.

The main event will be the Ibsen Festival in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with the assistance of the Norwegian Foreign Ministry.

The Norwegian Embassy in Vietnam is scheduled to join hands with the Hanoi National University to open a meeting dubbed "Ibsen and Students," in which prominent scholars from the Ibsen Centre in the Norwegian capital of Oslo will be guest speakers.

Joining the events to memorise the world famous writer, the Vietnamese World Publisher will issue a book portraying Ibsen's life and career. The Van Nghe (Literature and Art) Magazine will focus on introducing the life of the great writer and other Norwegian literature.

Vietnamese drama-lovers in Hanoi and HCM City will be entertained by two classic plays written by Henrich Ibsen, named the "Hedda Gabler" and "A Doll's House."

Similar cultural events will also be organised in countries around the world including Germany, the Czech Republic, Italy, Poland, the Republic of Korea, India and Bangladesh.

Vietnamese people have known about Henrich Ibsen through translation of his plays including "Brand", "Peer Gynt", "Ghosts", "The Wild Duck" and "A Doll's House" in the early 1970s and the famous "Hedda Gabler" in late 2004.
