The Japan Fashion Week event, entitled Collections of Asian Designers, will showcase 65 collections by designers from around Asia in three fashion shows on January 14 at the Tokyo International Exhibition Centre.
Other designers with collections to be shown hail from Thailand, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
Vu’s collection features designs made from silk and tho cam (brocade) of Mong people in Sa Pa district, north-western Lao Cai province.
Vu said he became interested in tho cam during his visit to Sa Pa in 2004 where he saw members of the Mong community weave traditional patterns.
Vu was chosen to show his collection in Japan after presenting his designs to a Fashion Week representative two months ago.
“By introducing the traditional cloth to the world, I want to call attention to the diligence of the Vietnamese people in general and the Mong in particular,” said Vu.
