The concert will feature Symphony No 1, Op 7 by Danish composer C Nielsen, and two works by Czech composer Antonin Dvorak: Slavonic Dance No 2 in E minor, Op 72 and Slavonic Dance No.3 in A flat major, op 46.
The concert’s highlight will be Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Suite No 1, Op 71a, and Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy in C, Op 80, both to be performed by pianist Ly Giai Hoa and the city’s International Chorus, a group composed of local and foreign members.
Pianist Ly Giai Hoa graduated from the city’s Music Conservatory in 1998 and then studied at the Shanghai Music Conservatory.
The lead of the HBSO’s opera troupe has performed in many concerts in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Born in 1944 in Aalborg, conductor Rasmussen completed his music studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen.
He has also worked for the Royal Danish Opera and for several well-known orchestras in Europe, conducting opera, musicals, big band music and symphonic jazz.
He has recorded dozens of CDs featuring orchestral and choral music, including the album The Crusaders (B1 CD465), a work featuring music by Danish composer Niels W Gase and performed by the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra.
The concert will begin at 8pm on May 9 at the Ho Chi Minh City Music Conservatory, 112 Nguyen Du, District 1.
Tickets, ranging from VND60,000 to 150,000, are available at the theatre’s box office.
