The Central Highlands province of Dak Lak has earmarked US$375,000 for a project to preserve local ethnic minorities’ gong culture, which was recognised by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

This was announced by the Dak Lak provincial Department of Culture and Information on July 10. Under the project, running from now until 2010, the department will conduct a survey on the numbers of gongs and players in the province and also hold classes to train people in playing the instrument. Each of 150 community cultural houses in the province will have a gong.
